Music on the ISS Repeater

One day I was attempting to use the ISS FM repeater and heard music playing on the downlink.

Short recording of the music I heard on the ISS repeater downlink.

Luckily I had recorded the attempt as I usually do and I put it out to the hamiverse for answers. Unfortunately I didn’t get any good responses on the web but at one of my local radio club meetups I ran into a member who was a JPL alumnus with some knowledge of how things worked regarding ARISS behind the scenes. He told me that sometimes music is played on the amateur radio system as a wake up call for the astronauts aboard the ISS as well as during certain tests. I would never have guessed that! I’ve added a clip of what I heard below. It’s not enough to me to be able to identify the song unfortunately. It kind of sounded like a live recording with a cheering audience at times. I’ve only included a short clip because the complete recording is a little painful to listen to as I was using an HT and was audibly fumbling with gear.
